AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT UCARE

Minneapolis, Minnesota-based UCare, a nonprofit provider of health care coverage for seniors, low-income Minnesotans, and those who buy their own insurance, which continues its court-supervised liquidation after suffering mass financial losses, has announced additional layoffs as Medicaid contracts shift to Medica on October 1, 2026.

The current layoffs affect 102 employees, including coordinators and member services representatives, some of whom work remotely. UCare plans to wind down all operations in Minnesota by the end of 2026.

A company spokesman repeated a previous announcement, “We understand that there will be difficult news for a number of you, and we want to acknowledge the significance of this moment. Please know we are working to get you answers as quickly as we can.”

Change is constant, and it's coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
