Chantilly, Virginia-based Amentum Holdings, a provider of advanced engineering and technology solutions for the U.S. government, allied nations, and commercial clients, has announced a reduction in force following the expiration and loss of major intelligence and commercial facility management contracts.
The phased reduction in force will impact 382 Maryland employees, with separations scheduled for October 31, 2026 (317 employees), and November 13, 2026 (65 employees).
Layoffs also impact Oregon (74 employees) and Chandler, Arizona (75 employees). Those layoffs relate to the management of chipmaker Intel's facilities and are scheduled for October 19, 2026.
According to a spokesperson, "We are proud of our employees' exceptional skills and expertise on these programs. Supporting our customers’ mission remains our top priority during the transition."
Change is constant, and it's coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
