Toano, Virginia-based Avid Medical, a brand owned by Owens & Minor and a manufacturer of specialty medical products including custom surgical and procedural kits, has announced the permanent closure of its Toano medical facility on or about November 25, 2026.
The closure will affect 419 employees, including 142 production coordinators, 71 assemblers, 30 material handlers, and 27 warehouse coordinators, as well as engineers, quality-control workers, supervisors, planners, and other employees.
According to a spokesperson, “Like all companies, Owens & Minor routinely evaluates its business operations to improve the customer experience. The closure of the Avid Toano facility is part of a broader long-term strategy to create more resiliency in our surgical kitting network and was already under consideration well before the divestiture. We truly appreciate the dedication of our teammates and are grateful for their continued support as we wind down operations in Williamsburg and transition them elsewhere in our kitting network.”
